author : Jeffrey DeitzJeffrey Deitz MD is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and author who practices psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Fairfield, Connecticut and New York City.\n\nBorn in Baltimore, Maryland, Jeffrey completed his undergraduate and postgraduate work at Philadelphia's University of Pennsylvania, having received his MD degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he also conducted neuroscience research at Johns Hopkins Medical School. After training in psychiatry and psychoanalysis, he went into the private practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis and contributed frequently to the professional psychotherapy literature and presented on the subject at international conferences.\n\nIn 2010, Jeffrey turned to wider audiences with a series of articles in the New York Times and Huffington Post about sports psychology, the power of psychotherapy and the public health menace of sleep deprivation. In 2015, he created the Effective Psychiatric Therapy blog for PsychCentral.com.\n\nA dedicated teacher, Jeffrey is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Frank Netter School of Medicine of Quinnipiac University where he lectures second and third year medical students; he also supervises psychiatrists-in-training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.\n\nJeffrey's first book, Intensive Therapy: A Novel was published on Bloomsday, June 16, 2015, by Greenleaf Book Group.\n\nJeffrey and his wife JoAnn Smith Deitz, also a psychiatrist, live in Norwalk, CT.
